Finding A Nanny or Maternity Nurse

Finding a nanny or maternity nurse to care for your child can prove to be a stressful and time consuming task. You can find an endless number of nanny agencies in the local directory and you can get lists and lists of them by searching the internet but this can all be very confusing.

We offer a range of options, to suit each individual family. Options from you searching for candidates to us searching and all the paperwork and processing in between. You can advertise your vacancy or just leave the whole process to us, with budgets to suit with each agency option along the way.

At Nannies UK we advise candidates for sole charge nanny positions that are:

1. Qualified and have completed at least 6 months supervised or shared care experience after their college course.

2. Not Qualified but with at least 24 months supervised or shared care experience or with at least 3 years sole charge experience in a family environment.

3. All candidates must hold a valid first aid and CRB certificate that is less than 24 months old to join the agency. (We always advise families that a new CRB should be requested, prior to commencement of new employment - unless CAS/OCR registered)

4. All candidates will be required to provide a full up to date CV, and 2 recent traceable employment references related to childcare. Nannies that are approved under the Childcare Approval Scheme (CAS) or Ofsted  Childcare Register (OCR) voluntary scheme will need to provide their registration number.

5. Identity checked against driver's licence, passport & birth certificate (2/3)

We understand the stresses and strains that parents often have to go through in order to find the most suitable nannies for their family.

We have ALL been nannies ourselves (some of us still are) this enables us to fully appreciate and understand the unique relationship between nanny and parent.

We understand the importance of checking the nanny’s employment history, and verifying the nannies CV.

We understand the importance of security, that is why we always check nannies written references by speaking to previous nanny employers and other referees on the telephone. We then send the referee a form to fill in, to verify a written record.

We feel it’s of paramount importance that your nanny is equipped to deal with a medical emergency should one arise. Because of this we insist that ALL of our nannies have an up to date paediatric first aid life saving certificate.

To ensure that this training given to the highest standard we now have our own nanny first aid trainer. Not only does this first aid training satisfy the requirements for the nanny approval scheme, but is appropriate for nannies that care for children in private households as a sole carer.

We understand the importance of your peace of mind. That’s why we NEVER recommend a nanny for a sole charge position unless the nanny has had the relevant post qualifying experience. No matter how well a nanny has been trained the nanny  needs to gain hands on experience in a shared care position before she takes total sole charge responsibility for young children. Nannies will have done this either in a nursery or as a nanny/mothers help position.

We understand the importance of confidentiality. We are “data protection registered”

Some of us are parents ourselves. Because of this we are able to empathise with parents. As “working parents” we know only too well that leaving your baby or child in the hands of another carer can be a very anxious and worrying time.

Because of this we try to provide the kind of service that we would wish to receive ourselves. So not only do we insist that our nannies are reference checked, CRB checked, have the relevant training or experience and hold a valid first aid certificate. We also insist that they are nice kind people, that can nurture and develop your child while you are away at work.

We always ask ourselves (when interviewing a nanny) would we be happy to leave our children in the care of that person. We also ask ourselves would our children be SAFE and would they be HAPPY and would they have FUN! The answer has to be yes to all three. Only then have we satisfied our strict criteria for a suitable nanny.

We understand the difficulties that parents often go through in order to pay a nanny’s tax and national insurance contributions efficiently. Because we understand that “time” is a precious commodity we want you to have as much to spare as possible. Because of this we can take responsibility for you nanny’s payroll. To ensure that all the requirements for your nanny’s tax and N.I.C. are taken care of fully, we now have our own payroll company.  What we really understand most  is “how to be understanding” We treat every family as an individual and try to fulfil their needs as best we can.
